1- The sorting and packing station at Mohamed Nagib military base is built on 55,000m, with a total storage capacity of 1,200 tons.
2- The sorting and packing station is constructed using pre-fabricated thermally insulating sandwich panels, to ensure the maximum cooling efficiency. The station is divided to 3 parts:
i) First stage is the receiving area. It consists of 5 docking stations and two cold rooms. Each has a capacity of 100 tons, especially designed to cool down the product’s temperature from about 35°C to 15°C in a timely manner preserving all the nutrients and avoiding the damage of produce.

ii) Second stage is the sorting and packing area which was designed to operate in 18°C containing a total of 9 sorting lines, 5 of each are manual and 4 semi-auto, also equipped with a quality lab to monitor the product and ensure compliance with the required standards. The packing area also contains 2 control rooms equipment to monitor and control all the cold rooms and the cooling equipment within the facility (BMS), the packing area was designed according to the international standards HACCP, Global GAP, and BRC.
Moreover, AHU (Air Handling Units) and textile ducts were used to provide chilled fresh air to suit the workers’ in the hall.
iii) Third stage is the storage area and exporting dock stations which consist of :

  • 6 pre-cooling rooms, each with the capacity of 16 tons designed to rapidly reduce the product temperature from 18°C to 0°C within 10 hours to guarantee a fresh product rich in nutrients.
  • 8 Cold rooms designed to store products at a temperature between 0 – 4°C for long or short term storage.
In addition, the sorting and packing station also includes 5 docking stations each of which consist of a motorized sectional door to preserve cooling inside the facility, a dock leveler to suit different vehicle heights and a dock shelter to ensure minimum thermal leakage.

Additional works inside the station :

Germination rooms were made especially for the National Company for Protective Cultivations, which is equipped with 6 axial fans for ensuring even temperature and humidity distribution, 2 adiabatic humidifiers to maintain humidity level at 90% RH, and 2 evaporators supplied by a separate unit for redundancy in case of any unit’s failure.
(These units are equipped with variable fan speed control for the condenser fans to well-match the required load and thus saving energy).

4x Rooms 11 x 11 m2 of which are 6 meters in height (for short term storage 6-12 months) and the other 2 are of 9 meters height (for long term storage 1-5 years). All have the controlled relative humidity of 30-40%RH which is obtained by a dessicant silica-gel rotor FISAIR, Air Humidity Control de-humidifier per room.
Temperatures ranges of the short storage rooms: 12 – 15°C.
Temperatures ranges of the long storage rooms: 5 – 8°C.
All controlled with the latest HumidSens™ IoT controller which controls the whole atmosphere inside the rooms.
Last but not least, the whole station is being controlled and monitored by a Dixell S.p.A. XWEB500 EVO controller which makes the best companion to link the whole HVAC/R equipment to the facility.
Cooling is supplied by R407C eco-friendly refrigerant by the means of 2 x Copeland Multi-Compressor Pack with Capacity Control for optimum operating efficiency (3 x 22HP compressor each) with the capacity of 96kW for a total of 192kW for all rooms.
Heat exchangers (remote axial-fan condensers and evaporators) were supplied by our partner, LU-VE Group.
